Access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services is crucial for the overall well-being and development of individuals and communities. Unfortunately, underprivileged communities where we operate, often face significant challenges in obtaining these essential resources. However, Right Path’s hands-on interventions have played a core role in uplifting welfare and improving people’s lives in these marginalized areas.
Below are some of the positive attributes of our WASH interventions in addressing their basic needs and promoting sustainable development.
Improved Health and Disease Prevention: Our WASH interventions have played a vital role in promoting better health outcomes within underprivileged communities. Access to clean water has reduced the risk of waterborne diseases, such as diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid fever. Right Path’s inventions such as improved sanitation facilities, such as latrines and proper waste management, prevent the spread of diseases related to poor hygiene practices. By providing access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation, our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene interventions significantly reduced morbidity and mortality rates, particularly among children, improving overall health and well-being.
Enhanced Education and Gender Equality: The inadequacy of WASH facilities often impacts educational opportunities, particularly for girls and women. In these underprivileged settings, girls are forced to miss school during menstruation due to inadequate sanitation facilities. So as Right Path in our WASH interventions, we include sensitization of separation of latrines according to gender and maintaining a distance between the two latrines such that the girl child can have access to menstrual hygiene management in a friendlier manner that creates a conducive environment for education and promotion of gender equality. As a result of this, girls attend school regularly, leading to increased literacy rates and empowering them to pursue better opportunities in the future.
Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation: Access to clean water reduced the time and effort required for water collection, particularly for children and women who often bear this responsibility. It has also freed up time for productive activities, such as education, income generation, and skills development. Additionally, Right Path’s improvement in sanitation facilities has led to a healthier workforce, reduced absenteeism, and increased productivity.
Environmental Sustainability: Our WASH interventions are a sustainable approach not only to benefit the present generation but also to ensure a better future for generations to come. That’s why, we don’t only focus on immediate needs but also aim to promote long-term sustainability through initiatives like water conservation and rainwater harvesting which contribute to environmental preservation thus mitigating the impact of climate change. Right Path’s adoption of sustainable WASH practices in underprivileged communities has managed to create awareness of their water resources effectively thus reducing contamination, and safeguarding their natural environment.
